The Chizé, bed and breakfast & rural gîtes in Trizay
You will be pleased to discover the trails and paths around the Chizé... By foot on the GR 360 trail, by bike (available for rent on location) or by car, discover all the treasures of Charente-Maritime !
La Rochelle, Rochefort, Saintes... All are towns with a lot of history and architectural riches. Ile de Ré, île d'Oléron and île d'Aix: these islands guarantee you a nice change of scenery with lights and colors specific to these places… Fortified cities of Brouage, Saint-Martin and of the Château d'Oléron, Fort Boyard, and Fort Louvois: these strong fortifications draw a dotted coastline and guard the estuaries of Charentes.
Wild coast, Green wood, Chatelaillon, the Grenettes: these are beaches where the ocean can sometimes be a bit wild, or sand beaches that stretch quietly and offer kids a great playground. Marennes oysters, grown mussels, pineau des Charentes, cognac, wines of the Charentes country, potatoes from the île de Ré, jonchée (curdled milk)… We strongly advise to discover our region through food and wine tasting!
Around Trizay
Rochefort : a city of Art and History…
- Built from scratch by the sole will of a king, Rochefort is a former royal arsenal port and rebuilds today the Hermione ship in a way true to the original. This frigate, built in 1779, took aboard the young marquis de La Fayette to participate in the making of a great nation: the United States!
- The Martrou transporter bridge straddles the Charente River since 1900… This clever system enables to cross the river without hindering boat traffic! This bridge is the only one of its type in France and is still in use!
- The Corderie Royale of Rochefort: in the heart of the arsenal designed by Colbert, the classic beauty of an old royal hemp ropes factory whose construction started in 1666 by order of Louis the 14th.
And more: writer Pierre Loti's house, the Navy national museum, the old naval medical school, the begonia conservatory…
